• Joined Elton John band as road manager in May 1972
  
• Joined Phonogram Studios London in September 1972 as assistant engineer.
  
• Became chief engineer in 1979 recording many large orchestras and big bands and bringing artistes such as Thin Lizzy, Dire Straits, The Boomtown Rats and The Sex Pistols to record at the studio.
  
• Worked with Tom Hidley (Westlake/Eastlake Audio) to design and specify the studio's refurbishment and later, the former Chappells Recording Studios in Bond Street. As a result, contracted by Philips/Siemens electronics (Phonogram's parent company in Eindhoven Holland) to work on the design of recording equipment for the studio group worldwide.
• Started to work as a record producer for Phonogram in 1980 producing (and charting) ABC's first material.
• Became a freelance producer in 1981
